Sophos Email is available only to business customers, such as commercial, education, and government organizations.
Licensing for Sophos Email is based on the number of individual users and shared mailboxes that need email security. Mailbox aliases, distribution lists, and public folders don't require licenses.
License usage is calculated based on the number of mailboxes processed in the past 30 days and is updated every four hours. If a mailbox is deleted, it's immediately removed from the usage count. For details, see Email license usage calculation.
If you're new to Sophos Email, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial. For more information about trial licenses for Sophos Email, see Email trial license.
If you want to know what happens when your Email license expires or exceeds its limit, see Email license expiration and exceedance.

Add-on licenses
In addition to the standard licenses, Sophos Email offers add-on licenses that extend functionality, such as encryption options. Here, you can find details about the available add-ons.
Portal Encryption
The Portal Encryption add-on license (CEMA-PE-ADDON) extends the functionality of the CEMA license by enabling portal encryption capabilities for users. A portal encryption message is hosted on the encryption web portal, to which the recipient must sign in to view the message. The transmission of the message is secure, and the message is stored encrypted on the web portal. The recipient can reply to the sender from the encryption web portal. This add-on license also supports the custom branding of encryption messages and the encryption web portal.
Here are some things you should know about the add-on license:
-
You can start a free trial if you have purchased a CEMA license.
However, you can't trial both the CEMA and CEMA-PE-ADDON licenses at the same time.
-
The number of CEMA-PE-ADDON licenses you purchase can't exceed the number of CEMA licenses you already have.
The Secure Message policy allows you to assign CEMA-PE-ADDON licenses to your users.
Only customers with a Portal Encryption add-on license can apply custom branding to encryption messages and the encryption web portal. For more information, see Custom Branding.
