Update iOS and iPadOS

You can update iOS and iPadOS on supervised devices.

Update device

Use this procedure to update iOS or iPadOS on a single device. To update a device group, use a task bundle with an Install latest iOS update task.

  1. On the menu sidebar, click Devices.
  2. On the Devices page, click the down arrow next to the device and then click Show.

  3. On the Show device page, click Actions > Show available updates.

    A list of updates that are available for the device is displayed. Updates labeled Critical are critical security updates as classified by Apple.

  4. To install the latest available update, click Install latest available update.

Sophos Mobile creates a task and transfers it to the device.

Note

The device won't download or install the update if it doesn't meet the requirements, such as a minimum battery percentage or available space. For details, see the section on software update requirements in About software updates for Apple devices.

Check update status

To check the update status of a single device, open the device’s Show device page. A warning sign is displayed next to Operating system if the device doesn’t have the latest available version installed. Only supervised devices report their update status.

To check the update status of all iPhones and iPads, check the OsUpdateAvailable column of the Devices report.
