Web content filter configuration (iOS device policy)
Restriction
This configuration only applies to supervised devices.
The Web content filter configuration lets you filter web pages in Safari and other web browsers.
Tip
In addition to filtering web pages on supervised devices, you can use the Web content filter configuration to filter the network traffic of individual apps on non-supervised devices. See Assign a web content filter to iPhone and iPad apps.
You have the following options:
- Plugin: Use a third-party filtering app.
- Blocked URLs: Configure web pages that users can’t access. All other pages are allowed.
- Allowed URLs: Configure web pages that users can access. All other pages are blocked.
Plugin
Setting | Description |

Filter name | A custom name for the filter configuration. |
Filter ID | The bundle ID of the third-party app. |
Server | The name, IP address, or URL of the server that hosts the filtering service. |
Organization | The name of your organization, if required by the filtering service. |
User name | The username for connecting to the filtering service. |
Password | The password for connecting to the filtering service. |
Certificate | The certificate for authenticating to the filtering service. |
Filter browser traffic | Filter web pages in Safari and other web browsers. |
Filter socket traffic | Filter network traffic from apps. |
Third-party settings | Additional settings, if required by the filtering service. |
Blocked URLs

Blocked URLs | URLs that users aren’t allowed to access. Enter one URL per line. When Safari matches a URL, it ignores any protocol, path, or subdomain that you enter here. For example when you enter
