Software update configuration (macOS device policy)
The Software update configuration lets you manage macOS system settings for software updates.
Setting | Description |
---|---|
Require admin password for app installations | Users must enter an administrator password to install or update apps. |
Allow automatic beta updates | If you clear the checkbox, the Beta Updates system setting isn’t available. |
Allow automatic updates from App Store | If you clear the checkbox, Install application updates from the App Store isn’t available under Automatic Updates. |
Allow automatic macOS updates | If you clear the checkbox, Install macOS updates isn’t available under Automatic Updates. |
Allow automatic checks for updates | If you clear the checkbox, Check for updates isn’t available under Automatic Updates. |
Allow automatic downloads | If you clear the checkbox, Download new updates when available isn’t available under Automatic Updates. |
Automatic installation of configuration data | If you clear the checkbox, configuration data isn’t installed automatically. |
Allow automatic installation of Security Responses and system file updates | If you clear the checkbox, Install Security Responses and system files isn’t available under Automatic Updates. In macOS 12 Monterey and earlier, this setting is named Install system data files and security updates. |
