Email license expiration and exceedance

If your Sophos Email license expires and you don't renew, you'll lose email protection. To avoid being at risk and unprotected from cyber threats, renew your license before it expires. If your license has expired, contact your Sophos partner or sales representative immediately.

Sophos may allow you to continue using the product for up to 30 additional days through a short-term temporary license while you're renewing. If allowed, your email protection will stay active during this time. Sophos reserves the right to charge a license fee for this temporary access. If you renew within this 30-day period, your new license starts from the day your previous license ended.

If you don't renew, Sophos will revoke access to Sophos Email when the period ends.

  • If your domain is connected in Gateway mode, you must update your MX records to stop directing emails to Sophos. Otherwise, emails are rejected.
  • If your domain is connected in Mailflow mode, an automatic cleanup is triggered that removes the configuration in M365. However, you should still check your configuration and make sure the connectors and Mailflow rules are removed.

If your Sophos Email license quota is exceeded, your account is flagged, but all mailboxes remain fully protected. If no action is taken, you'll be contacted to reduce the number of users or purchase additional licenses to cover the excess. To resolve this, contact your sales representative to purchase additional licenses.

Note

The outcome may vary depending on your license type and expiration date.
