Encryption license expiration
Warning
We strongly recommend activating a new Sophos Encryption license promptly after it expires. The shorter devices are unmanaged, the more easily you can reconnect them to Sophos Central.
When your Sophos Encryption license expires, you enter a 30-day grace period during which you can continue to use the product without any loss in functionality.
After the 30-day grace period ends, the following happens:
- We remove the Device Encryption page from the Sophos Central Self Service Portal. In specific, users can't get recovery keys for their devices.
-
We uninstall most Sophos Encryption components from the managed devices. Only a few components remain, which are required to reconnect the device with Sophos Central when you subsequently activate a new license.
We don't turn off BitLocker or decrypt devices.
Once you activate a new license in Sophos Central, all Sophos Encryption features become available again.
Note
The BitLocker recovery keys stored in Sophos Encryption aren't updated when a device becomes unmanaged after the 30-day grace period. If a recovery key changes, Sophos Encryption will still show the old key after you activate a new license.
