Rule type

Rule types define what Sophos Email looks for in messages and attachments when a Data Control rule is applied.

You can use a template rule type for common types of sensitive information, or create a custom rule type when you need more control over what the rule detects.

Templates

Use templates to detect common types of sensitive information or attachment file types. These rule types use predefined Sophos detection criteria.
Custom

Use custom rule types when you need to define your own detection criteria, such as specific content control lists, message attributes, or keywords.
