Aliases
Aliases allow a primary email account to receive emails sent to several addresses. If the user is managed by Sophos Central, you can manually add and remove aliases. Aliases can't be changed for external or directory-synced users. See Unable to edit a mailbox's alias.
Aliases are ideal for routing emails sent to generic addresses, such as info@yourdomain.com
, to a specific team member or when an employee prefers to have their mail delivered to an assistant's mailbox.
Sophos Email will process emails for both the primary SMTP address and any configured aliases. These aliases are displayed in the mailbox details.
Sophos will only process and scan emails if the mailbox or alias exists. Emails sent to or from non-existent mailboxes will be deleted. This is part of the address validation process when Sophos Central processes email.
Restriction
Alias mailboxes don't count towards license usage. Only the primary mailbox is considered for license calculations.
