Sensitivity labels are applied to emails twice

If you're using Sophos Email in Mailflow mode, sensitivity labels are applied twice to the same outbound email. This event occurs because of the way emails are processed when they leave the M365 tenant.

The process is as follows:

  1. When an email is sent outside of the M365 tenant, the M365 tenant initially sends the email to Sophos for scanning.
  2. After the email is scanned and identified as legitimate, the M365 tenant sends the same email to the intended recipient.

As a result, the M365 tenant applies the sensitivity label to the same email twice, once before scanning and once after scanning.
