Install Protected Browser on Mac devices

Learn how to install Sophos Protected Browser on Intel and Apple silicon Mac devices. Download the installer from Sophos Central, run it, then launch the browser.

We provide the same installer for both Intel (x86) and Apple silicon (arm 64) Mac devices.

Requirements

To install Protected Browser, your Mac devices must meet the following requirements:

  • macOS: Sonoma 14, Sequoia 15, and Tahoe 26
  • CPU: Intel (x86) and Apple silicon (arm 64)
  • Memory: Minimum of 4 GB RAM. We recommend 8 GB for optimum performance.

  • Storage: 20 GB disk space

    Note

    You may need more storage depending on the number of user profiles in the browser and the usage of those profiles.

Installation

To install Protected Browser, do as follows:

  1. In Sophos Central, go to My Environment > Installers.
  2. Under Protected Browser, click Download macOS Installer (Universal - Intel and Apple silicon).
  3. Save the SophosProtectedBrowserX64.pkg installer file to your device.
  4. On the Mac device, go to the location where you saved the installer.

  5. Double-click the installer and click Continue to start the installation.

    Note

    You may require administrator privileges to install .pkg files.

  6. Select whether you want to install the browser for all users on the device or only the current user.

  7. Click Install and enter the Mac device's administrator credentials.
  8. Click Close when the installation has finished.
  9. Go to Finder > Applications and click Sophos Protected Browser to launch the browser.
  10. Sign in using your credentials to begin using the browser.
