Lock device

The new Sophos Mobile pages in Sophos Central might not be available for all customers yet.

You can remotely lock a device managed by Sophos Mobile.

Restriction

You can't lock Chromebooks and Windows computers via Sophos Mobile.

Note

For devices where Sophos Mobile manages the Android Enterprise work profile, the Lock action locks the device, not just the work profile. For information on locking the work profile, see Lock work profile.

To lock a device, do as follows:

  1. Go to Devices > Mobile devices and click the name of the device you want to lock.
  2. On the device's details page, click Actions > Lock.
  3. Depending on the device type, enter the following information:

    • Lock screen message: A message that the device shows on the lock screen.

This option is available for Android devices, iPhones, and iPads.

    • Phone number: A phone number that the device shows on the lock screen.

This option is available for iPhones and iPads.

    • Unlock PIN: A 6-digit PIN code users must enter to unlock the device.

This option is available for Macs.

      Tip

Sophos Mobile stores the PIN code as a device property. To look up the code after you lock the Mac, go to the Properties tab of the device's details page and search for the device.unlock.code property.

On Android devices, iPhones, and iPads, users must enter the device password (or the PIN or pattern, if configured) to unlock the device.

Macs restart, and users must enter the PIN code you set to unlock the device.
