Website Management
You can extend the website filtering provided by Sophos Central.
You can only use this feature if you have a Web Control license.
Restriction
Web Control settings don't apply to websites you've excluded. See Global exclusions.
On the Website Management page, you can use a website list to do as follows:
- Control websites that aren't in one of the Sophos categories.
-
Tag websites to put them in groups, which are like custom categories. You can then use policies to control these websites for certain users.
Note
If you updated a policy but it's not behaving as expected, clear the browser cache or cookies.
-
Override the Sophos category for a website. This changes that website's category for all your users.
Add websites to the Website Management list
To add a website to the website list, do as follows:
- In Sophos Central Admin, go to My Products > General Settings > Website Management.
- Click Add.
-
On the Add Website Customization page, do as follows:
-
Enter the website details.
You can enter single URLs, full domains, TLDs, IP addresses, CIDR ranges, or top-level domains.
Note
Managing websites using IP addresses only controls browser-based access. It doesn't block other applications or interact with rules for a local firewall.
-
(Optional) In Category override, select a category to associate the websites with a specific category and override the Sophos category for a website.
For example, you have a Web Control policy that allows the Shopping category but blocks the News category. If you add
www.amazon.com
to the website list and select News as the category override,www.amazon.com
is blocked for all your users. However, other shopping websites are still allowed.Note
If you think Sophos has put a website in the wrong category, we recommend you open a support case. See Open a Support Case.
-
In Add tags, enter tag names to associate the websites with tags. This groups the websites together.
You can use tags when creating web control policies in Sophos Central Admin.
-
(Optional) In Comments, you can add more information about the tags you've created or categories you've overridden. This can be helpful when troubleshooting policy issues.
-
Click Save.
Your entry will be added to the website list.
