Restart and shutdown

You can restart or shut down your Sophos VA from the menu.

In the menu, the Sophos VA is called a network traffic analyser (NTA).

Restart NTA only restarts the Sophos virtual appliance (VA) running on the virtual machine (VM). The VM continues running.

Restart Log Collector restarts the log collector VA and any third-party integrations running on it.

Reboot restarts the VM and all VAs running on it.

Restart NTA

You might need to restart the Sophos VA if it isn't running properly.

If you have a third-party log collector VA running on your VM, only the Sophos VA restarts. The log collector VA isn't affected.

To restart your Sophos VA, do as follows:

  1. Go to Home.
  2. Click Restart NTA.

The confirmation screen appears. Here's an example:

    Restart

  3. Select Yes.

The VA restarts. Here's what you see when the restart finishes:

    Restart

  4. Select Back to home.

Restart Log Collector

If you've added a third-party log collector integration to the VM, you might need to restart it if it isn't running properly. The Sophos VA isn't affected.

You only have one log collector VA on a VM. If you've added multiple third-party log collector integrations to a VM, they use the same log collector VA, with different ports. This means all third-party integrations stop transferring data to Sophos Central during the restart.

To restart your log collector, do as follows:

  1. Go to Home.
  2. Click Restart Log Collector.

The confirmation screen appears. Here's an example:

    Restart

  3. Select Yes.

The VA restarts. Here's what you see when the restart finishes:

    Restart

  4. Select Back to home.

Reboot

You might need to reboot the VM if the VA isn't running properly and a restart hasn't fixed the problem.

If you have multiple VAs running on your VM, for example third-party log collectors, all the VAs stop running and reset.

To reboot your Sophos VM, do as follows:

  1. Go to Home.
  2. Click Reboot.

    The confirmation screen appears:

    Reboot

  3. Select Yes.

The VM reboots. The screen goes blue for a few minutes, then the Home screen appears.

Shutdown

Shutdown applies to the VM, not the VA. All VAs running on the VM stop running.

To shut down your VM, do as follows:

  1. Go to Home.
  2. Click Shutdown.

    The confirmation screen appears:

    Shutdown

  3. Select Yes.

The screen goes blue while the VA shuts down, then blank when shutdown is complete.
