Enable or disable Live Protection for on-demand and scheduled scanning

Sophos Live Protection delivers the most up-to-date threat protection by using the Sophos online lookup service to check files against SophosLabs’ in-the-cloud database.

The Enable Live Protection option for on-demand and scheduled scanning is available only if Live Protection for all types of scans is enabled in the Sophos Live Protection configuration settings.

If Live Protection for all types of scan is disabled in the Sophos Live Protection dialog box, Live Protection for on-demand and scheduled scanning is also disabled. If Live Protection for all types of scan is later re-enabled, the option for on-demand and scheduled scanning remains disabled and, if you wish to re-enable it, you will need to do this as described below.

By default, Live Protection for on-demand and scheduled scanning is enabled on new installations of Enterprise Console 5.4.0 or later. It is disabled if you upgraded from an earlier version of Enterprise Console.

Tip: If you are concerned about performance during scanning, you may want to try the new option by enabling it for a few computers first.

To enable or disable Live Protection for on-demand and scheduled scanning:

  1. Check which anti-virus and HIPS policy is used by the group(s) of computers you want to configure.
  2. In the Policies pane, double-click Anti-virus and HIPS.
  3. Double-click the policy you want to change.
The Anti-Virus and HIPS Policy dialog box is displayed.
  4. In the On-demand scanning panel, click Configure.
The On-demand scan settings dialog box is displayed.
  5. On the Scanning tab, select or clear the Enable Live Protection check box.
