Lock device

You can remotely lock a device.

Restrictions

You can’t remotely lock the following devices:

  • Chrome devices
  • Windows computers
  • Devices where Sophos Mobile only manages the Sophos container

You can’t wipe a Mac that you locked remotely.

Note

For devices where Sophos Mobile manages the Android Enterprise work profile, Lock locks the device, not just the work profile.

To lock a device, do as follows:

  1. On the menu sidebar, under MANAGE, click Devices.
  2. On the Devices page, click the down arrow next to the device you want to lock and click Show.
  3. On the Show device page, click Actions > Lock.
  4. Depending on the device type, enter the following information:

    • Lock screen message: A message that the device shows on the lock screen.

This option is available for Android devices, iPhones, and iPads.

    • Phone number: A phone number that the device shows on the lock screen.

This option is available for iPhones and iPads.

    • Lock PIN: A 6-digit PIN code users must enter to unlock the device.

This option is available for Macs.

On Android devices, iPhones, and iPads, users must enter the device password (or the PIN or pattern, if configured) to unlock the device.

Macs restart, and users must enter the PIN code you set to unlock the device.

Tip

You find the macOS system lock PIN on the device page under Device properties > Unlock passcode and on the Task details page under Lock PIN.
