Turn Android Factory Reset Protection on or off

Restriction

These instructions only apply to Android Enterprise fully managed devices.

When you configure Factory Reset Protection (FRP) for an Android Enterprise fully managed device, the feature is turned on by default. If you’re sure the device isn’t lost or stolen, you can turn off FRP to simplify the setup procedure.

Warning

When you misconfigure FRP, the device becomes unusable when it’s reset with FRP turned on.

To turn FRP on or off:

  1. On the menu sidebar, under MANAGE, click Devices.
  2. Click the device for which you want to set the FRP status.
  3. On the Show device page, click Actions > Set Factory Reset Protection.
  4. Select Turn on FRP or Turn off FRP.

When FRP is turned on, the device must be unlocked after a factory reset with one of the Google accounts you’ve configured for FRP.

For details on FRP, see Android Factory Reset Protection.

Tip

You can check the FRP status of a device on the Status tab of the Show device page.
