Set device status to Not managed

You can set the status of a device to Not managed if it permanently loses its connection to Sophos Mobile.

Warning

You can’t undo setting the device status to Not managed. To manage the device again, you must re-enroll it.

Normally, a device gets the Not managed status when it’s unenrolled. In some situations, a device can become unmanaged without Sophos Mobile detecting it. For example:

  • The user resets the device to its factory settings without unenrolling it.
  • The wrong device password is entered too many times.
  • iPhones and iPads: The user removes the MDM profile without an internet connection.

If this occurs, you can manually set the device status to Not managed.

To set the status of a device to Not managed, do as follows:

  1. On the menu sidebar, under MANAGE, click Devices.
  2. In the list of devices, click the down arrow next to the device and select Show.
  3. On the Show device page, click Actions > Set to “Not managed”.
  4. Click Yes in the confirmation dialog.

Sophos Mobile shows the device as Not managed. To completely remove the device from Sophos Mobile, use the Delete action.
