Limit bandwidth

You learn how to create a traffic shaping policy that limits traffic to a certain bandwidth and how to apply that policy.

Introduction

In this example, you want to make sure that Zoom conferencing traffic doesn't consume more than 10 MB of each uplink and downlink. For this, you create a traffic shaping policy that limits traffic, and apply the traffic shaping policy to an application category.

Create a limiting traffic shaping policy

You create a traffic shaping policy that limits the bandwidth based on application.

  1. Go to System services > Traffic shaping and click Add.
  2. Enter a name.
  3. Specify the settings.

  4. Click Save.

Apply a traffic shaping policy to application traffic

You link a traffic shaping policy to an application category. This means that in future connections the policy defines the bandwidth for applications of that type.

  1. Go to Applications > Traffic shaping default.
  2. Open the Conferencing category, search for Zoom Meetings, and click Edit.
  3. Select your new traffic shaping policy from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click Save.

The traffic shaping policy is applied to new connections that fall into the Zoom Meetings application category. The decision is based on the application ID. You can find the application ID of traffic in the application filter log.

Multiple Zoom Meetings connections share the bandwidth up to the limit you configured. Depending on the number of connections and the traffic they create, the individual bandwidth varies.
