Reset to factory settings
You can reset Sophos Firewall to its factory settings using the web admin console, command line, or SSH.
- To reset the firewall to its factory settings using the web admin console, see Manage firmware.

Resetting the firewall to its factory settings does as follows:
- If you have more than one firmware on the firewall, only the active firmware is reset to its factory settings.
- The secure storage master key (SSMK) isn't cleared.
Note
Pressing the reset button at the back of the firewall does as follows:
- XGS Series firewalls: Resets the firewall to its factory settings.
- XG Series firewalls: Only restarts the firewall. It doesn't reset the firewall to its factory settings.
XGS Series models except XGS 87(w) and XGS 107(w)
Starting with 18.5 MR1, you can use the reset button at the back of the device to reset the firewall to its factory settings on all XGS Series models except XGS 87(w) and XGS 107(w).
To do this, press the reset button for more than 10 seconds and then release it.
XGS 87(w) and XGS 107(w)
Starting with 18.5 MR2, you can use the reset button at the back of the device to reset the firewall to its factory settings on XGS 87(w) and XGS 107(w).
Do as follows:
- Press the reset button and release it.

Wait for 2-3 seconds, and press the reset button again.
Keep it pressed until the Status LED blinks three times in red, and then release it.
