Microsoft Hyper-V

You can deploy the Sophos Firewall virtual appliance on the Microsoft Hyper-V platform.

Prerequisites

The prerequisites are as follows:

  • Install Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 or 2016 on a server that meets the minimum system requirements. For deployment, see the following:

  • Install Hyper-V Manager (Hyper-V management software) on a management device with network access to the server. See Hyper-V Manager.

System requirements

Sophos Firewall goes into fail-safe mode if you don't meet the minimum requirements.

The system requirements are as follows:

Hardware Specification
vCPU 1
vRAM 4 GB minimum
vNIC 2
Primary disk 16 GB minimum
Report disk 80 GB minimum

Note

Configure the vCPU and vRAM based on the purchased license. Don't exceed the maximum number of vCPUs specified in the license.

Backup and restore

We don't support firewall backups created using a virtual platform vendor's backup tools. See Backup and restore cloud and virtual firewalls.
