Add an OSPFv3 area

An OSPFv3 area is a collection of networks.

You can configure the OSPFv3 areas the firewall belongs to.

  1. Go to Routing > OSPFv3.
  2. Scroll down to Interfaces and areas. Under Areas, click Add.

  3. Area: Enter a value in IPv4 address format. Example: 12.34.5.66.

  4. Type: Select the type of OSPF area from the following options:

    • Stub: Doesn't carry link-state advertisements (LSA) from an external autonomous system (type 4 and 5 LSAs). You can't configure virtual links in a stub area.
    • Stub no-summary: A totally stub area that doesn't carry type 4 and 5 LSAs nor type 3 LSAs except the default summary route. You can't configure virtual links in a stub area.

    • NSSA: A not-so-stubby-area that doesn't carry type 5 LSAs but carries type 7 LSAs within the NSSA that its ABR converts to type 5 LSAs.

      Type 7 LSAs are external LSAs learned from other protocols, such as BGP, RIP, and static routes. An NSSA forwards these to the backbone area but can't receive external AS routes from it.

    • NSSA no-summary: A totally stub NSSA that doesn't carry type 4 and 5 LSAs nor type 3 LSAs except the default summary route. Carries type 7 LSAs within the NSSA that its ABR converts to type 5 LSAs.

  5. Currently, the firewall doesn't support authentication for OSPFv3.

  6. Click Save.
