Backup-restore checklist
You can restore configuration backups from one firewall to another, including from models with more ports to those with fewer ports.

Check the compatibility as follows:

Make sure the firewall models are compatible.

Make sure the SFOS versions are compatible. See the upgrade information in Release notes.

Make sure you do as follows:
- Keep the Secure storage master key at hand. See Secure storage master key.
- Keep the backup encryption password at hand.

Take a backup from a 19.5 MR4 or later version to use the Backup-restore assistant.
The assistant shows the firewall's default inteface mapping when you're restoring the backup. You can change this default mapping.

Meet the HA requirements as follows:
- Meet the Dedicated HA link port's requirements. See Key interface mapping concepts.

To restore an HA backup, configure HA in the new firewall cluster, then restore the backup to the primary device.
