SLAAC
The firewall supports stateless address auto-configuration (SLAAC) for IPv6 devices. Using SLAAC, IPv6 devices automatically create unique link-local addresses for IPv6-enabled interfaces, and clients automatically use router advertisement messages to configure their own IP address.
The firewall can participate in SLAAC. By default, the firewall provides an IPv6 address and a default gateway to the client.
Using SLAAC, the host sends an ICMPv6 (type 135) Router Solicitation (RS) message that requests a Router Advertisement (RA). On receiving the RS message, the firewall sends an ICMPv6 (type 134) router advertisement (RA) message announcing the state of its availability.
Router advertisements include information about the method to use for address assignment, for example, prefixes, hop limit value, and flag status. The device advertises information about various interfaces and internet parameters either periodically or in response to the RS message, informing all the nodes on the network about any address modifications.
Prefix delegation
The firewall automatically creates router advertisements when you select IPv6 prefix delegation on internal interfaces. You can't change the prefix assigned to the auto-created RA server. If you want to advertise an additional prefix, you must create an RA server and configure it to advertise the prefix of your choice.
