Introduction

This guide describes step by step the configuration of a remote access to the UTM by using the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol. The SSL remote access feature in UTM provides security by a double authentication using X.509 certificates and username/password. Sophos' SSL VPN feature reuses the TCP port 443 to establish an encrypted tunnel to your company, allowing you to access internal resources.

First, the system administrator configures the Sophos UTM to allow remote access. Additionally he enables the User Portal of the Sophos UTM for the remote access users.

The User Portal offers the free Sophos SSL VPN Client software, including the configuration and necessary keys, and a configuration guide to the remote access user. Login data for the User Portal should be provided by the system administrator. The SSL VPN Client works on Microsoft Windows XP, Vista, and 7 operating systems.
