How to reset Sophos UTM to factory settings
Learn how to perform a factory reset using the command-line and the WebAdmin.
Factory reset details
The factory reset function resets Sophos UTM back to the default configuration. It deletes the following data:
Web filter cache
Logs and reporting data
High availability status
The Sophos UTM version number remains the same and all firmware and pattern updates that were installed are retained.
Using the command-line
To reset Sophos UTM using the command-line, do as follows:
Sign in to the Sophos UTM console or SSH as loginuser.
Enter this command to log in as root:
Change to the cc environment:
Enter the following sequence of commands:
The factory reset starts. Sophos UTM automatically shuts down when the factory reset is complete. You must power on Sophos UTM manually afterwards.
Note: You can also perform steps three to five using the cc system_factory_reset command.
To reset Sophos UTM using the graphical user interface WebAdmin, do as follows:
Sign in to WebAdmin.
Go to Management > System Settings > Reset Configurations or Passwords and then click Run factory reset now.
The factory reset starts. Sophos UTM automatically shuts down when the factory reset is complete. You must power it on manually afterwards.
