Any configuration changes made locally on the switch won't be synchronized with Sophos Central. We recommend making changes from the Sophos Central control panel instead.

Quality of service (QoS)

Quality of service (QoS) lets you configure priority queuing within your network. QoS provides consistent and predictable traffic to Sophos Switch by distinguishing between packets with stricter timing requirements and those more tolerant of delays. QoS allows traffic to be prioritized while avoiding sending excessive broadcast and multicast traffic. For example, you can assign voice and video streaming traffic, which requires minimal delays, to a high-priority queue. Other traffic, such as web browsing, can be assigned to a lower-priority queue. Without QoS, traffic may be dropped when the network is congested, reducing network performance.

Global Settings

For packets that enter the switch's port without QoS information, the switch inserts the information into the packets before transmitting them to the next node. So, QoS information is preserved between nodes within the network, and the nodes know the label to give each packet.

Untrusted ports don't trust the priority designations of incoming packets. Instead, they use the port default priority value to process the packet.

To configure QoS, do as follows:

  1. Go to Configure > QoS > Global settings.
  2. Select Turned on or Turned off for Status.
  3. For Scheduling method, select one of the following options:

    • Strict Priority: Specifies traffic scheduling based strictly on the queue priority.
    • WRR: Use the Weighted Round Robin (WRR) algorithm to handle packets in priority classes of service. It assigns WRR weights to queues.
  4. For Trust mode, select one of the following options:

    • 802.1p-DSCP: Classify traffic based on the 802.1p tag. If it's absent, use the DSCP tag value.
    • DSCP: Classify traffic based on the DSCP tag value.
    • 802.1p: Classify traffic based on the 802.1p tag value. The available tags are from 1 to 8.
  5. Click Apply.
