Any configuration changes made locally on the switch won't be synchronized with Sophos Central. We recommend making changes from the Sophos Central control panel instead.

Community list

SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c control access using a community string as the password and send information to SNMP managers based on transport tags. This information is transmitted in plain text, so it's less secure than the encrypted passwords used by SNMPv3 and should only be used for legacy devices that don't support SNMPv3.

The Community list tab shows the name, security information, and transport tag for all SNMP communities on the switch.

To add an SNMP community, do as follows:

  1. Go to Configure > SNMP > Community list.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Enter the following information:

    • Community name: Enter the name of the SNMP community string. It must be from 1 to 20 characters and can't include ", \, %, &, ?, ', !, ;, |, +, or spaces.
    • Security name: Choose a user from the drop-down list.
    • Transport tag: (Optional) Enter a transport tag.

The transport tag ensures that SNMP messages are only sent to and accepted from specific devices. If the tag isn't part of the community string, the switch can't respond to SNMP requests. You must define these values as the Tag identifier on the Target address tab. See Target address.

  4. Click Apply.

To edit a community, click Edit on the one whose settings you want to change.

To delete a community, click Delete on the one you want to remove.
