Any configuration changes made locally on the switch won't be synchronized with Sophos Central. We recommend making changes from the Sophos Central control panel instead.

Notification settings

SNMP Notifications are a type of SNMP message. Sophos Switch can send notifications to an SNMP manager when an event occurs. You can restrict user privileges by specifying which portions of the Management Information Bases (MIBs) a user can view. This way, you restrict which MIBs a user can display and change for better security.

You can also restrict the types of notifications users can send. The switch can issue notifications indicating status changes by sending authentication failure messages and other notifications.

To configure notifications, do as follows:

  1. Go to Configure > SNMP > Notfication settings.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Enter the following information:

    Option Description
Notify Name Enter the notify name. The notify name can contain up to 32 letters and numbers.
Tag Identifier Enter the tag identifier string.
    Notify Type

Select the type of notification to be sent.

Traps: Traps are sent when specific events occur.

Informs: Informs are sent only when v2c is turned on.

    Note

Recipients of trap messages don't send a response to the switch. Therefore, traps are less reliable than inform messages, which include a request for acknowledgment of receipt. Inform messages can be used to ensure that the host receives critical information. However, more system resources are consumed by informs because they're kept in memory until a response is received. Informs also increase network traffic. You must consider these effects when deciding whether to issue notifications as traps or informs.
