Import computers from a file
If you use role-based administration, you must have the Computer search, protection and groups right to perform this task. For more information, see Managing roles and sub-estates.
To enable Sophos Enterprise Console to list your computers, you can import the computer names from a file. You can create the file using entries like this:
[GroupName1]
Domain1|Windows7|ComputerName1
Domain1|Windows2008ServerR2|ComputerName2
Valid operating system names are: WindowsXP, Windows2003, WindowsVista, Windows7, WindowsServer2008, Windows2008ServerR2, Windows8, WindowsServer2012, Windows81, WindowsServer2012R2, Windows10, WindowsServer2016, MACOSX, Linux, and Unix.
The domain name and the operating system are both optional. So an entry can look like this:
[GroupName1]
ComputerName1
You import computer names as follows:
- On the File menu, click Import Computers from File.
- In the browser window, select the file.
- Click the Unassigned group to see the computers that have been found.
- To begin managing computers, select them and drag them to a group.
